Representative Ro Khanna, who has been serving California’s 17th District since Trump took office, recently sat down for an interview with social media activists Ed and Brian Krassenstein, hosts of “KrassenCast,” a political podcast that spotlights the issues and candidates that are making the news.
Rep. Khanna has been an outspoken critic of Trump since he joined the House of Representatives, and has been among the more progressive of Democrats — one of the few, in fact, to endorse Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primary. But it’s his take on the crimes of the Trump administration and in particular, Trump’s eldest son Donald Jr., that he discussed with the brothers as they recorded their Episode 9 show.
Co-host Brian asked Rep. Khanna, “How much legal trouble do you think Don Jr. is in right now?”
Khanna was unequivocal:
He’s in a lot of trouble. One of the things [Michael] Cohen was unwilling to say [in his testimony before Congress], but his body language suggested is true, is that the Southern District of New York may very well be investigating Donald Trump Jr. Here’s what happened: Michael Cohen paid off Stormy Daniels and then Donald Trump Jr. is allegedly cooking the books in the Trump administration to pay off Michael Cohen, and his dissembling and being dishonest about whether those checks are for a payoff or for legal services. So if I were to guess, my sense is that the Southern District of New York is, as we speak, looking into this.”
That’s more than an educated guess. Rep. Khanna sits on the House Oversight Committee panel that Trump’s former personal lawyer testified before in February. And although Cohen was prohibited from speaking about any particular ongoing investigation that his cooperation is a part of, it was relatively easy even for casual observers to “read between the lines” of what Cohen was saying when those topics came up in the House questioning session.
