After the public display of contempt for the rule of law that Trump exhibited in Japan during the G20, it came as no surprise who he was sitting next to as he mocked the special counsel and America’s entire intelligence community over election meddling — Vladimir Putin himself.

Now it seems we have a better idea why he’s so chummy with the former KGB agent-turned Federation President: He wants to be just like him. Or at least, that’s the impression they get IN RUSSIA.

Russian media analyst Julia Davis is an investigative journalist who’s written for the Washington Post and the Daily Beast, and you’ve seen her referenced even here in the pages of the DC Tribune. That’s because there is a shortage of American journalists who speak Russian or are willing to do the hard research — or even to sit still through some Russian State TV programming.

But Davis was watching just that today on Russia-1, the state-owned news service. Specifically, she was watching the Russian version of “60 Minutes” with hosts Evgeny Popov and Olga Skabeeva, who said some things that are more than a little bit alarming.

After Trump sat down with noted white nationalist Tucker Carlson for a one-on-one interview on Fox, it was clear just how much Trump admires Putin’s style — and his absolute authority. He went on and on about Putin’s foreign policy and the fact that Russia “doesn’t police the world,” as he sees America doing.

A mere 12 hours later, that was being interpreted on Russian TV as Trump emulating Putin:
