Trump Feels Up Air Force Academy Graduate During Commencement Speech: “I Wanna Feel This Guy’s Muscles!”

This is mortifyingly bad.

You’ve already seen coverage of plenty of Trump’s most recent, but embarrassing as always, speech — this time to the graduating class of the US Air Force Academy. His attraction to military spectacle is, in fact, outmatched only by his ignorance of traditions and lack of interest in anything that, well, doesn’t interest him. He breezed past the Secretary of the Air Force — still angry at her over her dismissal of his ridiculous “Space Force” and her plea for supplemental money for her branch that Trump was planning to steal for his border wall.

But speaking to the graduates is another matter entirely.

Some minds should just never be exposed to the youth of America for fear they might soak up some of the crazy, and that’s exactly what we fear when Donald Trump speaks to our troops — even if he technically is their ranking officer as Commander-in-Chief.

But part of me suspects that Trump knows he is hopelessly uninformed about anything to do with government or the military, or really anything at all about his job, and so he’s generally approached it the way any huckster approaches a situation he has to come to “cold”: He jokes, he breaks out anecdotes, he exaggerates, and he smiles and glad-hands everyone in sight.

It’s worked for him for years, bluffing his way through meeting after meeting, deal after deal in which he was desperately outmatched by those surrounding him.

So what can Donald Trump, a man from a family in which zero members ever served in the American military, possibly know about the jobs, lives, fears, responsibilities, or achievements of being in the Air Force? Nothing.

That’s when he starts looking for non-military ways to appeal to those in uniform whose approval he is desperate for.

Today, calling to the stage the Air Force baseball batting champion, Trump essentially debased himself for a cheap laugh, and it worked — it made the soldiers laugh, it eased his own tension around a group of people who are physically, morally, and spiritually superior to him in every way, and it sounded like something from TV:

That’s just embarrassing.
