Trump’s Conversation With The Pope Revealed, Offered “Great Experts” To Help

Pretty sure they've got this, Donnie.

Just as Trump was preparing to head out and play some more golf — God knows he doesn’t do that nearly enough (to keep him occupied) — he found the time to tweet one more time about the tragedy that befell the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, this time detailing conversations he’d had with both the President of France and with Pope Francis, who oversees the Catholic church, of which Notre Dame is a holy site.

But true to form, Trump couldn’t help but toot his own horn a little, although it was perhaps bad form, seeing as he was talking to the two people in the world who are most concerned with the disposition of Notre Dame. Convinced that America must be the home of the best builders in all of history, Trump offered the services of “our great experts on renovation and construction” to help in the recovery process for the cathedral that he called a “museum” just two days ago.

Mr. Trump has perhaps forgotten that the oldest non-pueblo buildings in this country were built roughly 500 years after Notre Dame was completed, enough time for 65 popes to come and go. The French cathedral was more than 625 years old by the time America was even a country. The French, and indeed all of Europe, have plenty of experience in maintaining and restoring buildings whose architecture no American has even been a part of, that only scholars in this country even understand.

Trump specifically is radically unqualified to offer wisdom or advice regarding Notre Dame, having himself suggested that emergency services in France risk destroying the building entirely by dumping tons of water on it from overhead.

We hope next time he goes to offer advice, he can just… Not.
