Donald Trump received plenty of great headlines when the White House communications department put out a statement Sunday that Trump was visiting McLean Bible Church to “pray for its victims and community of Virginia Beach” – the site of a recent mass shooting.
Pastor David Platt told church members that he was in the middle of worship service when he was “called backstage and told that the President of the United States was on his way to the church, would be there in a matter of minutes, and would like us to pray for him.” Platt ended up giving that prayer while Trump stood idly by with his golf hat in his hands absorbing the well wishes for HIM in the aftermath of a mass shooting that killed 12 people.
In other words, it was not about the victims of a mass firing, it was all about Trump. Historian John Fea said, “It almost seems as if Trump saw the critical posts and decided, on the 14th green at Trump National Golf Club, to show up at a church somewhere and receive prayer.”
So – Trump leaves his golf course to get a photo-op while so called social conservatives place their hands in the sand like ostriches instead of facing the reality that they’re not being consistent to their faith. For Christians – Sundays are for worship. For Trump – Sundays are also a day for worship (of golfing). At McLean Bible Church, Trump said nothing to the team, and Platt’s prayer said nothing regarding the Virginia Beach shooting.
Ladies and gentleman – this is your President.
The ONLY place where the shooting victims were mentioned was the WH press statement.
The pastor did not mention it in Trump’s presence. Trump said nothing at all.
And the pastor said that the WH asked him to pray for Trump. No mention of the shootings. https://t.co/0ZVkL8AG75
